Do you work, study, or conduct research in a high-trauma subject or industry?
Professionals in high-trauma environments have unique support needs because:
Our roles mean that we often have to mask our own feelings, whilst still navigating exposure to highly distressing situations.
Our professional training typically prioritises the needs of those we support, which is understandable; but this leaves us vulnerable.
Over time we may experience exhaustion, muscular discomfort, headaches, insomnia, a lack of work satisfaction, or feelings that something just isn't quite right.
It can be hard to find the right support, because we are the ones who typically help others.
We need support that sees our strengths, that is delivered efficiently, and with consideration for the level that we work at; this can be hard to find. This is the service that I provide.
Within my 20-year career I have supported, mentored, trained, and supervised professionals leading high-risk services; to navigate their own wellbeing in the midst of workplace trauma.
This includes:
CAMHS psychologists and social workers working with high-risk sensitive content connected to children's abuse.
Community trainers, working on high-risk anti-terrorism and radicalisation intervention projects.
Teachers and trainee teachers, delivering sex, relationships, crime and risk reduction content.
Classroom assistants, seeking to support children with high-risk behavioural presentations.
Executive leaders in healthcare, leading high-risk services for 2 million patients and 4500 staff.
Community sector management teams of up to 80; delivering community regeneration projects.
Multi-cultural charity sector teams, navigating politically charged situations and child deaths.
International researchers investigating child safety, abuse, and harm minimisation initiatives.
Government teams with lived experience delivering mental health policy initiatives and projects.

1. Peer Supervision
Peer supervision is a specialist service for individuals working in a field where they have lived experience. These sessions are a space for reflection on safe practice, personal wellbeing, the organisation that we exist within, and if desired there is potential to also explore career strategy.
Sessions are tailored to you, your unique career stage, and your personal interests; to ensure that we make best use of time. In our intake session, we will discuss your position, your unique needs, your personal and professional interests. Based on this, I will devise each session to meet your goals. Sessions can be held virtually, including out-of-hours, or in community locations (please see FAQ below).
To give you an idea of how sessions can be structured, a 60-minute session might include 2-3 wellbeing, somatic, or energic activities. This would be integrated alongside structured discussions of strategy as related to your role/project/general life for the past week and the week ahead, including specific project-based planning or tasks, and explorations of regulatory or professional tools that may be utilised in the week ahead or longer-term. This could then be followed by an opportunity to reflect on the session, the option for a set task provided by me for the week (this may be project based, personal, creative, or reflective), and the opportunity for you to set your own goals for the next session or to provide feedback ahead of it; as you desire.
These are your sessions, created your way. How much you would like sessions to be directed by you or structured for you will be decided by you. Book a free virtual consult via the button below, to discuss how this could work for you in practice, and to ask any questions that you may have.
I very much look forward to hearing from you.
-Jade Evelyn Gayle, MAASW, MSW, QTS, BSc (Hons)
